Tasting note

Fruit and freshness with a light tannin note. The terroir of the village of Morogues combined with hard work provides us with this beautiful example of a Pinot. The complexity is definitely there, thanks to the blending of grapes grown on 3 areas situated on Kimmeridgian and hard limestone. A beautiful wine that sometimes needs to be aged for a while, but the pleasure is always there.

About the producer

The Domaine, directed by Anne Pellé & her son Paul-Henry, is without question the leader in the appellation, having been established during the early days of the appellation’s creation in 1959. The quality of the wines has significantly improved over the last two decades, keeping the charm & rigour given by the Kimmeridgian terroir. Using organic methods in the vineyards, they have also improved & modernised the winery to produce clear, striking, racy Sauvignons on par with the best in Sancerre & Pouilly Fumé.

Grapes are sourced from six different parcels of vineyard (average age of vines is approximately 25 years) located in the commune of Morogues, all planted on Kimmeridgian limestone-clay marl soil and facing either southwest, south or southeast, thus getting the maximum benefit of the morning sun. The 35 hectares domaine is cultivated by measures that maintain natural balance, working the soil in the traditional way, but also to enable machine harvesting. Presses are pneumatic to safeguard juice quality, settling of solids by static refrigeration and fermented with indigenous yeasts at about 18°C, regulated to control fermentation speed and preserve fine aromas. The individual ‘clos’ are vinified separately to allow expression and development of their unique ‘terroir’. The wines are left on the fine lees until bottling to enhance complexity and nourish the resulting wine.
